Wilmington Real Estate
Wilmington, Delaware, is the largest city in New Castle County. It is located where the Christina River and Brandywine Creek come together, not far from the Delaware River. It is the county seat of New Castle County and one of the major cities in the Delaware Valley. The area was first colonized by Swedish settlers in 1638. After a series of wars between the Dutch and the English, the area fell to British colonization. In 1739, King George II changed the name of the settlement from Willington to Wilmington, after Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington.
The City of Wilmington is known for its historic districts: Baynard Boulevard, Kentmere Parkway, Rockford Park, Cool Spring, Old Swedes Church, Quaker Hill, Delaware Avenue, and Trinity Vicinity, among others. Neighborhoods such as Little Italy, Wawaset Park, Trolley Square, The Highlands, Forty Acres, Westover Hills, and Brandywine Hills are known for their architecture, history, and culture. Housing diversity provides an abundance of choice for the prospective home buyer; traditional single-family homes, luxury new homes and townhomes, adult-living communities, condominiums, and new riverfront residential communities are just a few of the options available.
